About Bacchus Boys

Bacchus Boys was formed by a group of gay men with an affinity for wine. The purpose of the group is to provide a monthly gathering where the Bacchus Boys can come together to taste and learn about wines.

Every wine tasting event is different as the host of the event chooses which style of wine we will be tasting. It may include a tasting selection of whites, reds, cabernets, sparkling wines, or zinfandels. The tastings are blind, with hors d'oeuvres provided to cleanse the palate while tasting the selection of wines.

Each Bacchus Boy wine tasting is free to all that attend, with the exception of providing your own stemware. Space is limited dependent upon the venue, so once the next month's tasting has been announced it is best to RSVP immediately to be assured of a seat!

Each host is responsible for purchasing the wine selection and planning their hosted event. As every event is different, each host has the flexibility of creating the event of their choice when hosting.

Why Gay Men?

Bacchus Boys wine tastings are designed for gay men to be able to socialize in a fun and relaxed atmosphere while learning about wine. It affords each of us the time to meet and greet others within the gay community and provides an outlet for male social bonding. The monthly events are fun and stress free. They allow for a healthy networking environment in which you can be comfortable being yourself, knowing that you are with men that truly understand you and your uniqueness.

Can I Join If I'm Not a Wine Expert?

Yes! Most of the Bacchus Boys members are new to wine tasting and are just starting to learn about wine, how its produced, whate effects the soil and terrain have on the wine, how to swirl, how to sniff, and most importantly how to enjoy wine! Gay men of all levels of wine expertise are welcome to join us, from the beginning casual sipper to the sommelier! Even though you may be an expert, the hope is that you will share your knowledge with other gay men in helping them to enjoy and experience wine in a different way. It's quite amazing to see how much we all learn from each other in the amazing world of wine!

How Do I Join?

Membership is free. To join you must be 21 years of age or older. You can fill out the Membership Application Form online or send an email to info@bacchusboys.com. Please be sure to include your name, address (street, city, state, zip), phone number, and email address. Either method will add you to our email list and you will then be sent information regarding the next monthly wine tasting event.

What To Expect?

Each Bacchus Boys wine tasting event is as different as the host. Typically the host selcted the wine flight for the tasting. Most of the tastings are evening and weekend events. The host provides the wine with each bottle and label disguised so that the group can enjoy a blind tasting. There are usually 6-8 varieties of wine to taste within each flight tasting. As you taste the wines, take note of the different flavors, scents, and tastes that each wine brings to your senses. Quite often there are various types of foods, fruits, and cheeses to pair with the wines to help you in understanding the complexities each wine may contain.

Once everyone has tasted the wines and made their notes, there is group discussion and review of each of the wines. At the end the labels and bottles are uncovered so that you can see what you've been tasting. You'll be surprised at what you and the group finds to be the best of the flight!

Where are Bacchus Boys Events?

Bacchus Boys wine tasting events take place in a variety of locations that change monthly. Most of the events take place at private residences, although it's entirely up to the host of each event as to the venue and location for the gathering. As a result some Bacchus Boys events are smaller than others, so once an event has been announced it's important to RSVP to the host immediately to reserve a seat at the tasting!

Our membership is made up of gay men living in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. Most events take place in Solano and Napa counties with the bulk of the Bacchus Boys residing in Fairfield, Vallejo, Napa, Vacaville, Benicia, Suisun, American Canyon, and the surrounding areas. We welcome members from all over the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

How Can I Host An Event?

The calendar fills up quickly as there are only 12 opportunities to host each year. If you would like to host a Bacchus Boys event, send an email to info@bacchusboys.com. Please be sure to include your name, phone number, and the month you would like to host. You will then be contacted by the Bacchus Boys to confirm a date, location, the number of people that you can host and type of flight tasting that you would like to schedule.

Holiday Tasting Social

The Bacchus Boys host the Holiday Tasting Social event each December. This event is not the same as our monthly tastings. For the Holiday Social event each person brings along a bottle of their favorite wine for others to taste, savor, and enjoy.

All of the bottles are opened and everyone is encouraged to freely taste the wines that are of interest to them!

The Bacchus Boys Holiday Social event is a great way to ring in the Holidays with good friends, good food, and good wine!
